my little blue lego

My daughter and I have a tradition. As in we did it last year and we're doing it again this year, so I'm guessing that we can officially call it a tradition. Ready to hear what it is?

Homemade, DIY'ed Halloween costume. For her.

Last year she was an owl, thanks to an adorable picture I found on Pinterest. I was so inspired I cut out a bajillion felt owl feathers and sewed them (by hand) onto a template I made out of a sheet, and let me tell you, she was UH-DORABLE! I even made a little owl hat out of felt that had two huge owl eyes and I wanted to burst I was so proud....last year. This year, not so much.

Lots of factors impacted the less-than-joyous experience that is this year's Halloween costume making. 1) We just moved into a new space that has me more than preoccupied reorganizing and decorating (more on that fun stuff later). 2) We celebrated her 9/24 birthday late - as in this past weekend - in part due to the move. So my time has been monopolized by everything else but her Halloween costume. But I was determined to make one for her (I love traditions, plus it was so much fun last year).

So, in between unpacking and organizing I started searching for a costume that met my costume making criteria. These were the terms:

Not too difficult or time consuming to make (I don't have enough time to cut and hand sew a bajillion feathers like I did last year)

Somewhat meaningful (i.e. It has to be something she would recognize already as a part of her routine)

Easy on the wallet

Super cute

And the winner is........a LEGO!

She loves legos! We play with them a lot at home. Plus its easy enough to make. 1 box, plastic cups, spray paint and glue - all things I have on hand at home.

Can't wait to show you guys pics. This year is going to be a blast because she actually understands what candy is and will be super excited to see the same kids she saw last year and has played with many times this year.
